By:Gabriel Doyne
A series of sporting events in Manchester led to hotels rooms nearly selling out on several occasions in October.
98% Occupancy Reported for Manchester Hotels
Manchester saw the joint-highest occupancy rate ever recorded in October, according to "Visit Manchester", with 92% occupancy rates reporting during weekends and 98% occupancy reported on the 26th October.
Football games at the Old Trafford football ground just 200 metres from the Old Trafford hotel investment, events at the Manchester Arena and events at venues including SportsCity were thought to be behind the huge demand for hotel accommodation.
Occupancy was up from 79% to 82% compared to the same period in 2012; the city centre had an average occupancy of 83% in October.
Managing Director of Visit Manchester commented, "I am delighted that last month matched the highest weekend average that the city has ever achieved with 92% of hotel rooms occupied."
"Of course, occupancy rates were boosted, in no small part, by the many and varied events on offer throughout the month. That included 10 events which took place on Saturday October 26th, from United versus Stoke and the UFC Fight Night, to the Revolution 41 Cycling and Squash Championships 2013 at SportsCity and on that date, hotels were 98% full."
"This marks a very exciting time for Greater Manchester's hoteliers and tourism industry"
