Chester University Student Numbers Increase
By:Siobhan McNichols
The University of Chester was established in 1839 and is one of the oldest higher education institutions in the country beaten only by Oxford, Cambridge and Durham.
The University has seen the 4th highest increase in applications in the UK out of 318 institutions for degree courses, the highest increase of any North West University.
The success of the University is not only limited to the UK, the number of international students studying at the University of Chester has risen by 221% since 1998 to 2010. In total the number of the full time students has increased by 194% from 2,806 in 1997 to 8,255 in 2009/2010.
The Bankside development in Chester is ideally placed to take advantage of these student numbers. This new modern accommodation with excellent facilities and en-suite rooms will not only be competitive in relation to the existing accommodation, but will also assist in the shortfall as Chester University is unable to guarantee 1st year student accommodation.
