Construction Moves Forward at the Holmes Street Student Accommodation Investment
By:Gabriel Doyne
Construction on Burnley’s first purpose-built student accommodation block is progressing well, as manufacturing of the modular units has commenced and the construction plan has been confirmed.
Holmes Street will be formed of multiple modular units to create the 67-room student development, allowing for a more efficient build process. Currently under construction in Widnes, the modules will be assembled in the factory before being transported to the Holmes Street site and assembled.

Holmes Street site prior to construction work
Whilst the modules are being constructed at the factory, on site work will also begin shortly. Partial demolition of the east wall will take place to allow access on to the site, before the assembly of the steel framework core begins.
Once the demolition process has been completed, a lorry mounted crane will install the modules on all storeys in each phase. With each new phase of construction, the process will begin with the ground floor working upwards. Similarly, the construction of the steel core and the connection of bedroom services will continue in between each phase.
As work continues on the early stages of construction, the project remains on schedule for the targeted August 2015 completion date.
