UK Hotel Investment Project Announces £40 Million Build Programme

Principal International are pleased to advise our readers that the five star Flaxby Country Resort, UK hotel investment project, in North Yorkshire have announced that Wates Construction are to be the main contractor for the £40 million build programme.

The 300 room leisure development, situated between York and Harrogate, will open in 2011, with work expected to start late this year. Up to 400 workers will be needed on site and local tradesmen and women will be used wherever possible.

Featuring a luxury spa, bars, restaurants and boutiques the 240,000 ft development will be set around the existing 27-hole golf course, nestling in nearly 300 acres of Yorkshire Countryside.

Paul Ellis, Managing Director of the development company explained: “We went through a thorough selection process and are delighted to be working with Wates. They have the experience, knowledge and capabilities to deliver this magnificent project on time and on budget.”

Wates Director, Phil Harrison, added: “The Flaxby Country Resort is good news for the people of North Yorkshire, who will no doubt benefit from the new jobs that this project will create – both before and after completion.”

The Flaxby Country Resort will total over 240,000 sq ft and the build programme is estimated to be around 80 weeks.

Wates Construction has a strong track record - both in the local area, with the recent completion of the Manor School project in York, and with high profile leisure developments. The family owned construction business had an annual turnover in excess of £980 million last year. The firm also has a commitment to using local labour and businesses. On recent projects, approximately 50%-60% of all monies spent has been with local companies. One example is the recently completed £17 million Bridlington Spa project that produced a 60% spend with local subcontractors. On this size of development an employment and skills plan would also be produced to maximise opportunities for local employment and training/apprenticeships.
